For the third year in a row I won a prize in the International Nature Photography Competition Asferico. My image of small Mycena fungi in a Forest won a Highly Commended in the Plants Category. My girlfriend Misja performed even better. She won 3 prizes.

On the 16th of April 2010 the prizes will be announced at the International Festival in Marano Lagunare, Italy

We are not used to a real winter (anymore) in the Netherlands. This winter was a bit different. Snow, cold, slippery roads and trains that didn’t go anymore. But it was also a lot of pleasure in nature.

After a night with some snow I went on my bicycle to the Ooypolder, a wetland just a few minutes from home. On several visites before I noticed that some Common Gulls used the frozen water near the river “de Waal” as a resting place. Every time it was not photogenic. But now it was different. They were sitting, four by tree in a white wonderworld.
